POC POC is first and foremost, a durable, modern, urban chicken coop design, created and built in Canada.
We believe that connecting with nature isn’t about escaping to the countryside, but doing so at home - wherever home is, whenever you want. We believe that hands-on education will shape tomorrow’s generation. We believe that knowing where our food comes from will give us a better appreciation of the world that surrounds us.
The two roosters behind
POC POC's mother hens are also the co-founders of Alvéole, a social enterprise dedicated to environmental education through urban beekeeping. They each have many years of experience in local, urban food production and strongly believe in the educational potential of urban agriculture. With these two ventures under their belts, we can comfortably say that Alex and Étienne have urban agriculture in their blood - and the story of how they hatched the idea for an urban chicken farming company will warm your heart.
A few years ago, Alex was caring for a client's bees when he encountered the man's two young daughters, devastated by the recent loss of their beloved family hens. A predator had stolen into their coop overnight and taken advantage of the easy access to the girls' feathered friends. The incident had left the family so bereft that they were contemplating shutting up the coop for good.
After hearing their story, Alex inspected the coop in question. It was a flimsy, wobbly structure purchased from a large retailer that shook with every gale and was drenched after even the most minor rainfall. But it had been the best the man could find: the market had none of the equipment necessary for raising urban chickens.
Alex shared his client's tale with his business partner, Étienne, when he got back to the office later that day. Hearts brimming with sympathy, the two came up with the idea for POC POC, a hyper-modern coop designed around safety and user-friendliness. POC POC's chicken coops are entirely adapted to life in the city, as well as the needs of their charming inhabitants.
We may as well tell you - this story ends well. The man got hold of his very own POC POC coop, and today, his chickens are spoiled with endless cuddles, lay an abundance of eggs, and live safe, happy lives.
